The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States on five European individuals working on fighting online hate and disinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe such as the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of campaigns to enact legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined the French president in criticizing the move.
The bans were imposed on Tuesday on a former EU commissioner involved in crafting the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as four activists fighting false information, from Germany and the United Kingdom.
